Dozens of celebrities have had flight information sold to international picture agency Big Pictures by Virgin Atlantic employee

Virgin Atlantic have called in the Information Commissioner following allegations that an employee leaked private flight information to the international celebrity picture agency Big Pictures.

The Guardian has named dozens of celebrities said to be involved in the leak, including Princess Beatrice and Sienna Miller.

A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic said that they "deeply regret" the privacy violations and confirmed that the airline has contacted the celebrities affected. As well as carrying out an internal investigation, Virgin Atlantic will be cooperating fully with investigations by the Commissioner and the Leveson Inquiry.

Athough Virgin Atlantic's internal investigation has assured that this is an isolated incident, further investigations aim to gain full details of the infomation leak. Big Pictures founder Darryn Lyons, who has already given evidence at Leveson early this year, will have to explain the information gained by his agency.

The employee responsible has resigned from her position at Virgin Atlantic and the airline have stressed that they "continue to treat the security of customer information extremely seriously".
